Notes Rock group formed in the early 1960s (see biography). Formed over a number of years in the early 1960s, by 1963 they had what was to become the permanent 1960s line-up: Mick Jagger (vocals)(qv), Keith Richards (guitar)(qv), Brian Jones (rhythm guitar)(qv), Ian Stewart (keyboards)(qv), Bill Wyman (bass)(qv), and Charlie Watts (drums)(qv), the latter being the last to join the group. Stewart was soon to be removed from the line-up by the group's manager for being insufficiently pop-star like, although he was to remain associated with the group over the years (known as the sixth Rolling Stone) as occasional road manager and pianist on their tours. Jones left the group in June 1969 and died a month later in his swimming pool. He was replaced by Mick Taylor, who was himself replaced in 1974 by Ron Wood (qv). Bill Wyman announced his departure from the group in 1992.
