Biography Jeremy Nathan Jeremy Nathan produced his first feature film, Shot Down (100 minutes), in 1986. He has since produced and co produced numerous short fiction films, documentaries and feature films amongst them are De Voortrekkers, which was banned in South Africa for 10 years. Other notable films during this period are The Burden (26 minutes), The Shadowed Mind (90 minutes), Ulibambe Lingashoni (a 5 hour series on the history of the African National Congress), The Line (a.k.a. In a Time of Violence; 3 x 52 min drama series - 1993/4), Africa Dreaming (a six part drama series, each in a different country in Africa, Joburg Stories (a 75 minute feature documentary), The Foreigner (17 minute short drama), and Jump the Gun (120 min feature film), SA Short and Curlies (a series of short films including Portrait of a Young Man Drowning by Teboho Mahlatsi and Lucky Day by Brian Tilley, The Vow by Junaid Ahmed, Watercolours by Nantie Steyn, Husk by Jeremy Handler), The Great Dance (a feature documentary), Boesman and Lena (full length feature film starring Danny Glover and Angela Bassett). Jeremy has written numerous articles on the film and television industries. His work as appeared in STAFFRIDER, WEEKLY MAIL AND GUARDIAN, and NEW NATION. The Congress of South African Writers (COSAW) published MAPANTSULA: THE BOOK, which Jeremy edited, in 1991. Jeremy has lectured film and television production at the Newtown Film and TV School in Johannesburg, the Cape Town Film and TV School, and for the Centre for Democratic Communication (CDC). He was one of the first people to lecture film and television at the Alexandra Arts Centre, which eventually became the Newtown Film and Television School. Jeremy was a founder member of the Film and Allied Workers Organization (FAWO), which lead the way in challenging the apartheid film and television industries in the late 1980's. He was Head of the Distribution Portfolio for two years. He also helped found the Film and TV Federation (FTF), the precursor to the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF). He was a consultant to the Government's Department of Arts and Culture, Science and Technology (Film), between 1996 and 1998. Jeremy is currently on the International Advisory Board of the Cinemart, part of the International Film Festival Rotterdam. It is the original co-production market for feature films. He is also a Board member of AVEA (Audio Visual Entrepreneurs of Africa), a foundation which runs an annual course for producers in Southern Africa.
