Biography Original name = Antal Kovacs, which he uses for writing credits. Left Hungary in 1956 and finished his studies at the Westminster College of Commerce, St. Martin's School of Art, and the London School of Film Technique. He joined the film industry in 1963 as an assistant film editor for Athos Films, being promoted to film editor in 1964. In 1965 he went freelance as an assistant director on theatrical feature films, and became a director in 1969. Between 1970 and 1972 he went to work in Sydney, Australia, and on returning to England worked as a freelance director/writer/film editor. He joined the BBC in 1983 and continued on various contracts as an assistant producer/ director. In 1986 he became a lecturer at the Napier College for Television in Edinburgh. In 1990 he was on sabbatical in France, and in 1992 went to Rome for nine months. On his return to London he continued freelancing as director/ writer/film editor. In 1993 he was involved with the SOURCES workshop, an initiative of MEDIA '95 to train film scriptwriters. From 1994 to date he is a lecturer at the London International Film School.
