Dead bodies lie strewn in the valley; riders pursue their quarry over the hill (8). Mary enters her room (9). She rushes to the window and calls her lady-in-waiting who brings sheets (hiding the rope ladder) and a change of clothes for disguise. The lady-in-waiting holds the door closed while Mary escapes. The door is finally forced open and Queen Elizabeth and two men enter (26). The lady-in-waiting helps Mary (27); follows Mary to window (29). CU of lady-in-waiting barring the door (30).
