Set in the period of the Peshwas, the film follows the life of Ramshastri, who was orphaned at an early age and left his village to bcome a learned man. On his return he is appointed Chief Justice and comes to be quite influential. On the death of the ruler of the Peshwas, the younger brother succeeds but is murdered at the instigation of his uncle and aunt. At risk to his life, Ramshastri denounces the murderers.
