Educational video looking at many aspects of film. Divided into six parts, it includes interviews with famous `film people', film clips, artefacts and sets from the museum. The six sections are: 1) MOVING IMAGES; how film works, including optical toys, magic lanterns and animation today. 2) EARLY CINEMA; the language of film from the very first shorts to the birth of an international industry. 3) CINEMA AND REVOLUTION; Editing as the key to film making from Soviet montage in the 1920's to the present day. 4) HOLLYWOOD; Hollywood in the 1930's and 40's. The experience of film going in Britain. 5) HOLLYWOOD BOLLYWOOD; The largest film industry in the world. Indian film at home and abroad. 6) FROM SCRIPT TO SCREEN; Alan Parker on the making of "The Commitments".
