AHLAM FI FARAGH

Library Synopsis

A montage that takes the viewer from the daily life of a Palestinian refugee woman living in Jordan to the discourse of a religious senator who belongs to a mystical school of thought. The film tries to identify the contradictions between modern Islamic political thinking and the everyday problems of an ordinary woman.

BNFVC Notes

Portrait of a middle-aged Palestinian woman refugee in Jordan set against the discourse of a religious member of parliament. Shot at the height of the Gulf crisis and finished when the Gulf war had taken its toll of suffering and destruction, the film is a plea for a more humane, less abstract understanding of the complexities of the modern Arab and Islamic worlds.
