The LATE SHOW: BAUHAUS The FACE OF THE TWENTIETH CENTURY
Library Synopsis
To mark the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Bauhaus school, this LATE SHOW special examines the most influential art and design movement this century. Includes rare footage from the Bauhaus film archive and interviews with former students.
BNFVC Notes
Founded by Walter Gropius in 1919 and closed by the Nazis in 1933, the Bauhaus school of design, craftsmanship and architecture revolutionised modern design. Establishing a relationship between design and industry, "Bauhaus" became synonymous with rationalised, sharp-edged, machine-based style. The programme looks at the development of the Bauhaus and at key figures involved in it, as well as setting its history in the context of political unrest and economic chaos of the Weimar Republic.
