Documentary-style story of Albert Dehousse who during the German Occupation of France 1940-1944, works as a travelling salesman. After the Liberation Dehousse discovers that his wife and father-in-law were members of the Resistance. Albert runs away to Paris where he reinvents himself as a Resistance hero.

Based on the novel by Jean-François Deniau. In provincial France, during the German Occupation, a man works as a travelling salesman. At the Liberation, he discovers that his wife and father-in-law were involved in the Resistance, while his mother's collaboration is publicly punished. He runs away to Paris where he reinvents himself as a Resistance hero, and is appointed to weed out traitors in France and then to run psychological and propaganda operations in Germany.
