PANORAMA [BBC, 1953- ]: PULP FUTURE

BNFVC Notes

Reports on the perceived threat of a violent and chaotic future, which, since the end of the Cold War, has begun to replace the spectre of totalitarian control. A future in which "Big Brother" will be watching but will no longer care what you are doing. Visits a number of countries where the rule of law is already breaking down, including Sierra Leone, Argentina, and China. Europe is shown as a precarious model for the future, with frontier guards unable to keep out illegal immigrants and gangsters eager to criminalise those who do make it across the dangerous waters of the Adriatic. Contributors include Robert Kaplan, Jean-Christophe Rufin and Prof. Martin van Creveld.
