BLACKSMITH
NFA Catalogue
ACTUALITY. Blacksmiths (two men and a boy) working in open air, probably made in imitation of Edison's BLACKSMITH SCENE but filmed in open air. Exterior. On a pavement, with a low wall and fence behind them, two men and a boy at work around an anvil: the boy beating the anvil with a large hammer, middle-aged man in the middle with a smaller hammer, and older man on the right operating the pump of a small furnace. The first two go over to the third man, the boy taking a strip of metal from the furance and dipping it in a jug of water while the middle-aged man lifts a bottle on the wall and drinks from it. They each return to their work, the boy and middle-aged man hammering the metal strip on the anvil and the older man operating the furnace. (35ft) Note: The participants may be French.
