Murder mystery. An expressionist painter, Hedley Shale is found murdered with two bullets in his chest in his bedroom. His secret lover, model Francesca Boutron, is also dead, lying nearby bound and gagged. Shale's wife, Serena appears to be the killer but she has an alibi and could not have left her office without being seen. The police arrest the wrong man. Maddy Magellan, an investigative crime writer, gets involved in the case and with the help of magic expert Jonathan Creek tries to break Serena's alibi.
