An elderly pensioner lives in great poverty with his little dog. After a spell in hospital, his landlady throws him out due to missed rent payments and he decides to commit suicide. However, his dog runs off and he is forced to chase it. When the two are united once again he decides not to kill himself but to struggle on, despite his economic difficulties.
