Viewer Anne McCarthy and her children are fans of HOLLYOAKS. They all found that the current storyline was confused by events contained within the HOLLYOAKS one-off video. (The video has a 15 certificate so her children cannot view it). Anne McCarthy also feels that such one-off videos in general are exploiting the loyalty of their viewers. Viewer Paul Wellings wants to know what the BBC are doing for licence-fee paying sports fans. Studio discussion with Mr Wellings and Alan Yentob (Director of Programmes, BBC). Viewer Sacha Brown thinks that television advertising about alcohol glamorises drinking. As alcohol advertising is shown all day Sacha Brown is concerned about the affect on children, and believes that alcohol advertising should be banned like cigarette advertising. Replies from Derek Rutherford (Director, Institute of Alcohol Studies), Marcy Ann McKibben (Assistant Director, Alcohol Concern), and Tony Colman MP (Labour, Putney). Tanya Smart and John Walter (participants in the programme THE TRUTH ABOUT WOMEN) complained in RIGHT TO REPLY on 7th February that they had been misrepresented in the programme and how they took their complaint against the programme makers to the Broadcasting Standards Commission.
