Viewer Tom Webb cannot see the 'educational' value of programmes like POLICE, CAMERA, ACTION, the programme merely panders to people's morbid fascination with crashes. How do the programme makers justify it being educational by showing disasters and accidents in other countries? Comment from Kevin Delaney (Traffic & Road Safety Manager, RAC Foundation for Motoring), reply Graham Morris (Acting Superintendent, Metropolitan Police) [asked why the police release the CCTV footage] and Steve Warr (Series Producer, POLICE, CAMERA, ACTION). The internet survey group, the Right to Reply 500, were asked: Should police provide footage? 61% said 'yes', 31% said 'no' Restricted use [of surveillance tv]? 84% - for exposing crime 7% - for news/education 3% - entertainment 6% - never on tv Viewer Paul Guenault was shocked by a recent edition of THE RICKI LAKE SHOW: STOP BEATING MY MOM [8/2/00] where children were booed and jeered by an adult audience. It subsequently turned out that some of these children suffered from ADHD and had potential suicidal tendencies. This programme was not an appropriate place for discussing these issues and the role of the professional psychologist on the programme was deeply irresponsible. Comment from Andrea Bilbow (Director ADDISS, ADHD Information Service), Reply Molly Clarke (Assistant Editor, Daytime Channel 4). Viewer Michael Shuttleworth [former Royal Marine] was one of many viewers who criticised the WAR IN EUROPE (Channel Four's three part series on the Kosovo conflict) for substituting NATO propaganda for the truth. The programmes did not question the official version of events. Why was there only one Yugoslav interviewed in the programme. Comment from Mark Littman QC and Philip Hammond (Senior Lecturer, Media, South Bank University). Followed by studio disucssion with Eamonn Matthews (Series Producer, WAR IN EUROPE), MS and RB.
