SEX BC: SEX BC[2002/08/05]
NFA Catalogue
The second episode of Sex BC looks at the sexual lives of the pharaohs and looks at how sex was central to Egyptians' lives. Rameses the Second was the greatest of all the Pharaohs, who married over 20 women from across his empire - including his own sister and three of his own daughters - and sired a hundred children. One of the Pharaoh's most essential roles was to ensure the Gods brought fertility to the land and the River Nile. In an annual ceremony he would masturbate into the water. But as well as royalty, sex held sway across the whole of Egyptian society in a way that would have shocked the Victorians who uncovered so much of Egypt's treasures. Adultery was not punished, there was no concept of virginity and divorce was acceptable
