CRY FOR ARGENTINA

Library Synopsis

"The least known and most traumatic event of the past two years has been the collapse of the Argentine economy and the impoverishment of Argentines. Angus Macqueen's film isn't really a report. It looks at the statistics of woe through the eyes of Argentines as they struggle on. He hangs out with the makers of a TV show in which the audience get to vote on which of the contestants gets a job. He follows a woman from one cash machine to another as she tries to salvage some of her lost savings. What I like about the film is how recognisable everything appears to be, and how alien.
